This article we will discuss about - Enable or disable Item References from Inventory Setup.

With this series we will understand what's new the product and learn it before it becomes available for customers.

Feature Details - 

This is the last step in the journey to replace Item Cross-References with Item References, which started a year ago to address one of the top-voted suggestions Write longer item references. To avoid disruption for users and partners, these two features coexisted and Item References was controlled by a feature switch on the Feature Management page. In this release, Item References will be the only option.

Explanation -

  • If you are not aware about this then this might be new, Microsoft have already announced Replacement of Item Cross-References with Item References in past releases. 
  • Starting Business Central 19 (2021 Release Wave2) - 
    • If you use Cross References, Microsoft will upgrade the data to Item References.
    • If you don't use Cross References Item References then related Controls and actions will not be visible by default. 

  • In Future if you decide to use Item References, administrators can easily activate the feature by turning on the Use Item References toggle on the Inventory Setup page.

With this Microsoft is minimizing clutter on pages by hiding controls and actions.
