MSDYN365BC - Upgrade To Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central on premises - No of Steps?

Hi Readers,

As Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central on-prem released, I am getting questions about how many steps do we need to upgrade (Data migration & Object Merge) to MSDYN365BC (on-Prem).

This article just lists down No. of steps required to upgrade From Current Version 3.7 onward.

Below is the list of No. of Steps required if you plan to Upgrade to MSDYN365BC (on-Prem).

Wondering why these steps, below are the details of the no. of steps -

1. From NAV 2015 / NAV 2016 / NAV 2017 / NAV 2018 -

With Release of Product in the product DVD, Microsoft has released one step upgrade codeunits from NAV 2015 and Higher (as shown below).

Two Folders - Data Conversation Tools (W1) and Local Objects (for Localized version) which you downloaded.

2. From NAV 5.0 / NAV 5.1 / NAV 6.0 / NAV 6.1 / NAV 2013 / NAV 2013 R2 -

  • From NAV 5.0 and NAV 5.1 - No data upgrade toolkit to NAV 2009 versions. It only requires Object Merge.
  • From NAV 6.0, NAV 6.1, NAV 6.2, NAV 2013 & NAV 2013 R2 - Microsoft have one Step Upgrade to NAV 2009 and higher to NAV 2015. And from NAV 2015 one step to MSDYN365BC (on-Prem).

3. From NAV 3.7 / NAV 4.3 -

  • From NAV 3.7 and NAV 4.3 - Microsoft have one Step Upgrade to NAV 2009 from NAV 3.7 and NAV 4.3 to NAV 2009.
  • From NAV 6.0, NAV 6.1, NAV 6.2, NAV 2013 & NAV 2013 R2 - Microsoft have one Step Upgrade from NAV 2009 and higher to NAV 2015. And from NAV 2015 one step to MSDYN365BC (on-Prem).

** If you are coming from 3.7 / 4.3 there may be so many functionalities that are either discontinued or re-engineered. So be ready for changes in system processes.

Hope you find the post useful. Let me know the feedback.

Stay tuned for more.
