Microsoft Dynamics NAV - Trip To Future.

Hi Readers,

Are you ready to Travel into future !!

Microsoft has released the glimpse of Dynamics NAV & Dynamics 365 Modern Developer Environment.

You might have already read it but I also have some questions, please let me know your views on those questions.

If you remember during Directions NA and EMEA this year, Microsoft confirmed that BETA  of New Developer Environment will be released in Christmas this year. This is still not a finished product but to get an idea what we will be doing in the future versions.

The "Hello World" First Program that we all write with every programming language,  is public published and available to download from Github. https://github.com/Microsoft/AL

Let's have a look what's there and what we think after looking into the code -

1. These Two Objects (Can i say object?) are adding an action in Customer Card Page.

2. This Codeunit Object is generating a message result on click of new action on the customer card.

Here are my Queries (after first look into these files) -
** Only my views

1. Is PageExtension is a new Object Type in future OR are we moving out of Object-based programming?

2. The Extension Page number is 70000021 - Can I create any object with any number in future and how my license will work? 700000XX is right now may be an addon number.

3. Extends - If I am not wrong that is something from OOPs.

4. There is a section of layout, Will we have a designer in future or everything is Text based. we moved from Forms to Pages but what next?

What do you think?

I also have some concerns -

1. What will happen to code that are part of customization that we did for our customers till date?

2. What will happen to add-on which is available for Dynamics NAV?

3. Will there be a tool to translate that to the new style of code?

4. Will after the actual release of new developer environment, we will only be able to customize using Extensions?

5. Will we require to Upgrade customers? Will that type of projects will exist in future?

6. Will C/AL be there or this is the last version where we can code in C/AL?

I am but confused, will you be able to help me. Let me know your views as comments to articles.

Hi all, As a Navision developers I have Multiple Versions of Navision running in single Machine. As discussed Earlier in the post how to run multiple Version of RTC in single machine. However, after installing Dynamics NAV 2009 R2, if i tried to view the Layout for an NAV 2009 SP1 Report i was getting the following error: ---------------------------  Microsoft Dynamics NAV Classic  ---------------------------  It is not possible to instantiate  the Visual Studio bridge.  ---------------------------  OK    --------------------------- After searchi...
