Application Merge Utilities - How to Use - GET & SET NAVApplicationObjectProperty

Hi All,

This is the third post in this series, If you would like to read earlier post do visit the Index Article.

As Promised In This Post we will see about Two Commands Available in the the Module
"Microsoft.Dynamics.Nav.Model.Tools".

1. Get-NAVApplicationObjectProperty
2. Set-NAVApplicationObjectProperty



Let's Load the Module again and see the Available Functions.

Import-Module "${env:ProgramFiles(x86)}\Microsoft Dynamics NAV\71\RoleTailored Client\Microsoft.Dynamics.Nav.Model.Tools.psd1" -force
Get-Help "NAV"

Export an Object Say Codeunit 1,Page 1 & XMLPort 1 From any Database as Text.

My Exported File Name is Obj.txt.


1. Get-NAVApplicationObjectProperty == 

This cmdlet will provide us the Microsoft Dynamics NAV application object properties from the specified application object text files. The Output of the Cmdlet is what properties we see of the object in Object Designer.

This Cmdlet have only one Input Parameter i.e Source File. (Source File can contain 1 or multiple objects)

Get-NAVApplicationObjectProperty -Source C:\Users\sdhyani6995\Desktop\Blog\Temp\Obj.txt -Confirm
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Below is the Cmdlet window and output of the Cmdlet.



2. Set-NAVApplicationObjectProperty == 

This cmdlet will Sets Microsoft Dynamics NAV application object properties in the specified application object text files. The Output of the Cmdlet will the Updated File with Parameter Provided while Running the Cmdlet.

This Cmdlet have following Parameters -

>Target File (Target File can contain 1 or multiple objects) - File Having Objects on which we want to update Properties.
>DateTimeProperty - The New Data and Time we want to update on objects in Text File.
>ModifiedProperty - The New Modified we want to update on objects in Text File.
>VersionListProperty - The New Version we want to update on objects in Text File.

Set-NAVApplicationObjectProperty -Target C:\Users\sdhyani6995\Desktop\Blog\Temp\obj.txt -Confirm -DateTimeProperty "08/23/2014 10:30:00 PM" -ModifiedProperty YES -VersionListProperty TESTING1
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To Set Date Time to Current Time We can also Use (Get-Date -Format g) in DateTimeProperty
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Set-NAVApplicationObjectProperty -Target C:\Users\sdhyani6995\Desktop\Blog\Temp\obj.txt -Confirm -DateTimeProperty (Get-Date -Format g) -ModifiedProperty YES -VersionListProperty TESTING1
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Below is the Cmdlet windows of the Cmdlet.



Let's try to import the Updated File in Navision and see what happened.


So as we can see all the properties have been changed as we wanted.
